Hi there everybody,
Note: Free dodgeball for the first two weeks, dates are on the website, register your interest, test run to see if enough people would be interested in starting a league.
We are currently in refit mode, so once you all come back from your summer break and begin playing again you will see a few changes, with a few more to come. We are currently finishing off the guys and girls toilets, which includes girls changing room and mirrors, new tiles and fresh paint.
The bar is going to look good but is still under development. Watch this space! Once the bar is open we intend on giving out a free drink for player of the game.
We are looking to freshen up courts and nets so watch this space also!
The plan… we wish to start both social and competitive leagues, you will be asked which one you want to be involved in when signing up your team.
We will run 11 week seasons, 9 weeks of round robin, followed by a week of semi-finals and a week of finals. At the end of the finals week, pending interested teams, there will be a Championship Saturday or Sunday which will provide an overall winner of each league. These winners will be presented with a shield, name engraved, and there will be four winners (four seasons) of each of the shields throughout the year! We anticipate a really good championship day. Itwill be be a very social, good natured and competitive atmosphere, so come on down and enjoy the day!
Our planned sports and evenings…
Soccer – Sunday/Monday/Thursday (same as last year). Competitive and social, mens and mixed, pending interest will determine what nights are played for each variation
Netball – Sunday through Thursday (same as last year). Competitive and social, 6 and 7 aside ( 7–aside Monday as per last year), womens, mixed, we would be interested in trying a mens if there was enough interest. As above for variations.
Dodgeball – free for first two weeks, dates are on the website. Then Sunday/Thursday. Competitive and social, mixed and mens, as above for variations.
Cricket – Tuesday/Wednesday. Competitive and social. This will not start up right away as we need to sort the top nets in the cricket courts.
Our office is open most days running normal business hours currently. If you would like to start a team you can phone up, just let me know the team name, captain, captains cell and work/home number, and the night and variation you would like to play.
We will be giving back where we can, so as stated above there will be a player of the game awarded which will result in a free drink at the bar once its up and running. We also want to reward those teams who pay in full on the night, so if you do pay in full on the night your team will be entered into a draw to win a bar tab at the end of each season. We will also be putting aside some money for an end of year function as well as some form of sponsorship for teams who want to compete in tournaments.
We have plans to train referees and we will be bringing the level of officiating up to a good standard! We currently have a very good team of referees! We are meeting in the near future to discuss how we plan on doing this, and I know all those who I have been in touch with regarding this are excited to be moving forward and up!
Myself and the team here at Metro are very excited to bring some atmosphere back! I have received a number of submissions from the website (the quick survey), all of which mention the atmosphere and the friends that have been made here in the past! Let’s get back to that! Modernising the facility will not happen instantly but it will be at the front of our mind in all our planning.
If you have any questions, or have any concerns, the doors are always open, come on up, have a chat, give us a ring. Here's to a great 2013!
